TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE MEDIUM-SIZED TOWNS SANITATION PROGRAMME II IN TUNISIA: THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL TRAINING IN SITE HSSE

Tunisia

Project

ONAS is implementing the investment programme “Sanitation of 10 Medium-Sized Towns II”, co-financed by Germany and Switzerland through KfW. It includes the construction of wastewater treatment plants, the rehabilitation, interception and extension of existing sewer networks, and the related transfer systems and pumping stations, for about a dozen medium-sized towns in the disadvantaged western, central and southern regions of Tunisia.

An accompanying measure aims to strengthen ONAS’s capacity in environmental protection, hygiene, and occupational health and safety on works, in line with the donor’s requirements (World Bank Environmental and Social Standards). It covers the worksites of Gafsa Ksar and M’Dhilla (Gafsa), Souassi (Mahdia), Thala and Feriana / Thélepte (Kasserine).

Our mission

Our mission is technical assistance to strengthen ONAS’s capacity, comprising:

  • theoretical training of ONAS staff on HSSE topics, in line with World Bank procedures and national regulations, in particular the occupational health and safety section of the labour code;
  • continuous practical on-site training: monitoring of the works together with ONAS staff to ensure worksite safety and compliance with the HSSE standards applicable to the loan agreement.
