PERMANENT LINK BETWEEN THE ISLAND OF DJERBA AND THE MAINLAND IN THE DJORF REGION

Tunisia

Project

The project involves creating a link between the island of Djerba and the mainland in the Djorf region. The main objectives of the project are:

  • To provide a permanent link between the island of Djerba and the mainland to the southwest of the island.
  • To relieve congestion on existing roads and reduce waiting times caused by ferry services.
  • To provide medium and long-distance connections between Djerba and the rest of the country.
  • To provide infrastructure to support the development of the region and its economic activities.

The purpose of the study is to carry out technical, economic, financial, and environmental and social impact studies for the link connecting the island of Djerba to the mainland in the Djorf region. The route includes a crossing between the two banks via a viaduct-type structure, the location and type of which have been chosen according to the constraints of the site. The viaduct is a prestressed concrete box girder bridge constructed in successive 2,500-meter spans.
