DREDGING PROJECT OF THE PORT OF ZARZIS

UPDATE OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT AND IMPACT ASSESSMENT FOR THE DUMPING OF DREDGED MATERIAL AT SEA

Tunisia

Project

The project is part of the maintenance dredging of commercial ports for the Shipping and Harbours Authority (Office de la Marine Marchande et des Ports). In 2007, SCET-TUNISIE elaborated a study allowing the realisation of maintenance dredging works in the commercial port of Zarzis in order to restore the seabed to its initial coasts, so as to ensure the movement of ships under the best safety conditions. The works were not carried out (for various reasons) for the initial dredging coasts:

  • 12 m hydro in the port basin and
  • 13 m in the access channel, giving a volume of two million five hundred thousand m3 (2 500 000 m3).

The current project was selected in 2015 for dredging levels of -11 m hydro in the basin and the access channel for a dredging volume of 650,000 m3. However, the ANPE required before the start of the works, an update of the Environmental Impact Assessment as well as the study of the immersion of the dredged products in the maritime discharge site Zarzis 1, approved by the OMMP and the ANPE (National Agency for the Protection of Environment).

The intervention of SCET-TUNISIE was part of this framework.

Our mission

  • Updating of the environmental impact study for the dredging of the port of Zarzis.
  • Realization of the study for the immersion in the sea of the dredged products of the port of Zarzis.
