CONSTRUCTION OF THE PORT FACILITIES OF RUBAVU, RUSIZI, AND KARONGI IN RWANDA

Project

The mission is to review the design and supervise the construction of port facilities in Rubavu, Rusizi, and Karongi in Rwanda. The three sites are located in the western province at almost equal distances, approximately 100 km by road between Karongi and Rubavu, and the same distance between Karongi and Rusizi. Lake Kivu occupies a large part of the western border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. 
Such port facilities are of great interest for trade and personal connectivity for border communities and will: 

• create an opportunity in terms of cargo and passenger transport that could be an alternative to road transport ;
• facilitate cross-border trade between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. 

The main port facilities to be built in the three ports are as follows: 

• 60-meter-long jetties for ferry and cargo transport ;
• Dredging works (volume of approximately 5,000 cubic meters in each port) ;
• Access roads ;
• Superstructures and networks.
