STUDY FOR THE RESTORATION OF RAILWAY LINE No. 2 BETWEEN MATEUR AND TABARKA

Tunisia

Project

Line No. 2 between Mateur and Tabarka is a standard-gauge line approximately 103 km long. It was cut at the Tamra – Nefza – Ouchtata section when the Sidi El Barrak dam was filled in 1997, which flooded nearly 10 km of track, and has been completely closed to traffic since 2008.

Through this study, SNCFT is seeking a new alignment for the flooded section and for the sections where reusing the old alignment is difficult, as well as the rehabilitation, strengthening and realignment of the other sections showing defects, with a view to bringing the whole line back into service.

Our mission

The study is carried out in three phases:

  • Phase 1 – Preliminary design (APS): alignment study of the relevant variants for the flooded sections, diagnosis of the existing infrastructure (platform, structures, tunnels, stations), preliminary hydrological, hydraulic and geotechnical studies, environmental impact assessment, estimate of cost and duration, and economic viability study;
  • Phase 2 – Detailed design (APD): detailed studies (topography, geotechnics, hydrology, hydraulics), expert appraisal and strengthening of the existing platform, structures and tunnels, design of new structures, stations and stops, land acquisition files and utility network files;
  • Phase 3 – Bidding documents: justification report, cost estimate and the documents required to launch the works procurement procedure.
